This model takes everything that made Yamaha’s earlier recreational watercraft special and adds a boost of horsepower. With a new engine-control unit and a lighter construction material, the EXR delivers increased speed and acceleration. One standout feature of this craft is Yamaha’s innovative dual-throttle system known as RiDE, which simplifies both docking and close-quarters maneuvering. With a capacity for up to three passengers and a price tag of $9,299, the 2019 Yamaha EXR is sure to provide an exhilarating experience on the water.
Features Of The 2019 Yamaha EXR
The 2019 Yamaha EXR is packed with exciting features that make it standout in the personal watercraft market. From its powerful engine to its innovative RiDE system and Yamaha’s NanoXcel 2 hull, the EXR is designed to provide an exhilarating and convenient riding experience. Let’s take a closer look at each of its key features.
Engine Specifications
At the heart of the Yamaha EXR is its impressive engine. Powered by a new engine-control unit, the EXR’s three-cylinder 1,049 cc engine delivers a thrilling ride with 110 horsepower. This increase in power allows the EXR to outperform its predecessors, reaching a top speed of 54 mph and delivering more aggressive acceleration. The addition of a top-loader intake grate and a 40 mm pump extension further enhances the craft’s handling and response times.
Hull and Deck Construction
Yamaha has always been known for its durable and high-quality construction, and the EXR is no exception. The EXR features Yamaha’s NanoXcel 2 hull- and deck-construction material, making it the lightest version of their fiberglass-based Sheet Molding Compound. This material not only reduces the craft’s weight to just 540 pounds but also improves its overall performance. The EXR’s lighter weight results in improved horsepower-to-weight ratio, enhancing its speed and agility on the water.
RiDE System
One of the standout features of the 2019 Yamaha EXR is its innovative RiDE system. The RiDE system is a dual-throttle system that simplifies docking and maneuvering in close quarters. With a second throttle lever on the left side of the handlebar, the RiDE system allows for intuitive pulls on the forward and reverse levers, making shifting between forward and reverse easy and effortless. Additionally, the RiDE system can be utilized at high speeds, providing rapid deceleration when necessary by dropping the reverse bucket into the forceful jet of water leaving the pump.
Storage Capacity
Despite its compact size, the Yamaha EXR offers generous storage capacity. With a 7.7-gallon capacity split between the bow compartment and an oversized glove box, there is plenty of space to store your belongings securely while out on the water. Whether it’s essential gear, personal items, or snacks for the ride, you can bring everything you need without sacrificing valuable on-board space.
If you feel like I do, that the storage could be a little better, checkout the below options that are available from Yamaha on Amazon to allow you to carry more of your stuff with you while riding. I personally feel the bow and stern storage bags are very useful on the EX model skis:

Power and Performance
The Yamaha EXR is designed to deliver exceptional power and performance for an unforgettable riding experience. With its TR-1 High Output 1,049 cc Yamaha Marine Engine, the EXR boasts an impressive 110 horsepower and a top speed of 54 mph. This powerful engine, combined with the craft’s lightweight construction, ensures rapid acceleration and thrilling performance on the water. Whether you’re cruising at high speeds or maneuvering through tight spaces, the EXR offers an exhilarating ride every time.
Dual-Throttle System
The RiDE system on the Yamaha EXR features a dual-throttle design that enhances control and maneuverability. With two throttle levers on the handlebar, you can easily shift between forward and reverse with intuitive pulls. This system simplifies docking and close-quarters maneuvering, making it easier for riders of all skill levels to handle the EXR with confidence.
Benefits of RiDE
The RiDE system offers several benefits that enhance the overall riding experience. By providing reverse power through a redirecting thrust, the RiDE system simplifies docking and eliminates the need for complicated shifting maneuvers. The addition of a neutral position ensures that the craft stays in place, even in tricky situations. At high speeds, the RiDE system allows for rapid deceleration by dropping the reverse bucket into the forceful jet of water leaving the pump. This feature ensures better control and safety during sudden stops or tight turns.
Docking and Maneuverability
Maneuvering a personal watercraft in close quarters can sometimes be challenging, but the Yamaha EXR’s RiDE system makes it easier than ever before. With the dual-throttle system, riders can make precise movements, quickly switching between forward and reverse as needed. This level of control makes docking and navigating through crowded marinas or tight spaces a breeze, even for beginners. With the RiDE system, you can confidently maneuver the EXR with precision and ease.
Speed Control
The RiDE system not only simplifies docking and maneuvering but also offers better control over speed. By utilizing the reverse bucket, the RiDE system allows for rapid deceleration, ensuring a safe and smooth transition when slowing down. This feature is particularly useful when approaching obstacles or making sharp turns at high speeds. With the RiDE system, you can have total control over your speed and enjoy a more stable and comfortable ride.
Bow Compartment
The 2019 Yamaha EXR comes equipped with a rather shallow bow storage compartment, it lacks the height/ depth to store larger items. The picture below shows a 3rd Yamaha upgrade accessory that can be added to give you considerably more space for items like a life jacket, extra gear, a towel, small soft sided cooler, and other larger items.
If you add all three storage accessories shown here in this article you will give the ski alot more acceptable storage. The Bow Storage Dry Bag Accessory and the extra deep glove box are the largest spaces on the EX models. I recommend adding the bow storage dry bag and the stern mounted bag at the very least to allow you to bring everything you need for a day on the water without sacrificing comfort or performance.
Oversize Glove Box
In addition to the bow compartment, the EXR features an oversize glove box for even more storage options. This glove box provides a secure and easily accessible place to store personal items such as keys, wallets, and phones. With this additional storage space, you can keep your valuables safe and within reach while enjoying your ride.
Dual Rearview Mirrors
Safety is always a top priority, and the Yamaha EXR is equipped with dual rear view mirrors to enhance visibility on the water. These mirrors provide a wide-angle view, allowing you to keep an eye on your surroundings at all times. Whether you’re navigating through heavy boat traffic or simply want to be aware of your surroundings, the dual rear view mirrors offer added peace of mind and safety.
Pull-Down Boarding Step
Getting on and off a personal watercraft can sometimes be challenging, especially for less experienced riders. The Yamaha EXR addresses this issue with its convenient pull-down boarding step. This step allows for easy access to the craft, making boarding and disembarking a breeze. Whether you’re at the dock or out in open water, the pull-down boarding step ensures a smooth and hassle-free experience for everyone.
Cut-and-Sew Saddle Construction
Comfort and style come together in the Yamaha EXR’s cut-and-sew saddle construction. The saddle is meticulously crafted to provide optimal support and comfort for riders of all sizes. The high-quality materials used in the construction ensure durability and longevity, even with frequent use. Additionally, the saddle’s design adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the overall appearance of the craft.
Two-Tone Deck Mats
To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the EXR, Yamaha has included two-tone deck mats. These mats not only provide a stylish touch but also serve a functional purpose. The textured surface ensures better grip and traction, reducing the risk of slipping or losing balance while riding. The two-tone design adds a unique flair to the craft, making it stand out from the crowd.
Price
With all its exceptional features and performance capabilities, you may be wondering about the price of the Yamaha EXR. The EXR is priced at $9,299, offering excellent value for its class. Considering its powerful engine, innovative RiDE system, and generous storage capacity, the EXR is an affordable option that doesn’t compromise on quality or performance.
Certified Test Results
To further validate the Yamaha EXR’s performance and capabilities, it has undergone extensive testing. Boating Magazine conducted certified test results, providing unbiased data on the craft’s engine, pump/impeller, gear ratio, fuel load, and crew weight. These tests ensure that the EXR meets the highest standards of performance and reliability. With Yamaha’s reputation for quality and durability, you can trust that the EXR will deliver on its promises.
In conclusion, the 2019 Yamaha EXR is a personal watercraft that offers a thrilling ride and a host of features. With its powerful engine, innovative RiDE system, and ample storage capacity, the EXR is designed to exceed your expectations. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or new to the world of personal watercraft, the Yamaha EXR provides an exhilarating and enjoyable experience on the water. Below is another accessory that is a must-have if you can’t live without your music on the water. The Yamaha EX Footwell Audio System gives you a great fixed to the ski system that fires your music right at you while performing awesome stunts on this ski. This ski is one of my favorites in the world of Yamaha skis, don’t miss out on a chance to own one for yourself.
